Apple Movement Project – PMM020/FSG

The Apple Movement Project was born in 2019, when we became aware that Dércio's (one of the beneficiaries of the Wheelchair Project) grandmother Heriqueta Vilandula, was hospitalised in Orthopaedics IV at the Maputo Central Hospital. Due to the friendship which had grown between them and the Foundation, a visit was arranged and, as a courtesy, it was planned to buy fruit to offer her as a way to wish her a speedy recovery. However, she was not the only one in the room, so the idea was born to buy a box of apples to offer not only to her but also to her bedside companions.

From that Friday onwards, after Grandmother Henriqueta’s health condition improved, the Foundation was moved and every week, on Friday, would offer an apple to all the persons hospitalized there, as a way of cherishing them. This gave way to a Project named the Apple Movement which is being conducted by the Foundation’s workgroup, alternating between the departments of Maputo’s general Hospital, during visitation hours, with the purpose to provide the persons in the wards with a gesture of solidarity and support.

This project has the very simple purpose of giving the hospitalised patients a token of solidarity and support along with their family members so that they feel loved by the Foundation and return to the family life with a little more spirit.

The movement is carried out every Friday in Maputo’s General Hospital, in the bed of every patient hospitalised in each of the different departments, during the visitation hours, by offering apples to everyone and some words of comfort wishing them a speedy recovery and that they quickly return to their families.
