Braille Project – PB0017/FSG

According to the Ministry of Education, in 1975, there were 4 private special schools in Mozambique, two in Maputo City (Hearing and Mental Impairment), two in Sofala Province (Hearing Impairment and the National Institute for the Visually Impaired) and one in the city of Nampula (Mental Disability) which were nationalized. These institutions had a triple subordination, namely Health (medical assistance), Social Action (social support) and Education for teachers, study programs and direct support to schools.

The Sérgio Gago Foundation designed the Braille project whose objective is to support the inclusive education of the visually impaired in higher education schools as a way of contributing to the improvement of their inclusion.

The implementation of the project will be carried out through a partnership between the Sérgio Gago Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Human Development to ensure its efficiency. Teachers will be trained by technicians trained in Teaching Students with Special Educational Needs..
