Auto Vans Project – PCA/FSGE013

A report published the past year by the World Bank indicates that Mozambique has 15 millions of its citizens living in extreme poverty, which represents almost 60% of the population, placing the country amongst the 10 countries with the higher proportion of poverty and with the highest number of poor citizens (living with less than 1,90 dollars per day). As a way of mitigating the problem that mainly affects the youth, the Sérgio Gago Foundation - FSG designed the project "Self-employment Vans", as a mechanism of self-support, thus reducing the rates of unemployment and mendicancy.

This project, in its first phase, will benefit the following neighbourhoods: Chamanculo, Hulene and Polana caniço, and so it will be implemented with the support of the structures from the neighbourhoods in question.

This initiative consists in enabling and attribute a certain number of hand carts and an initial amount or its equivalent in products to initiate the commercial activity. To implement this initiative we count on the partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Social Action and the Secretary of State for the Youth and Employment. On the other hand we also count on the partnership with Mozambique’s tax Authority as a way to promote the taxation and the Bank of Mozambique to insure financial literacy.
