Mangwana School – PEM003/FSG
The Community of Macanda, in the village of Impaputo, District of Namaacha travels long distances to reach a school as well as hospital facilities. Every day children travel about 3 Km to get to school. The same is done by those who need medical care.
Presented with this situation, the Gago Foundation is implementing in this area, a project to build a school, a Medical Center, a water hole and housing for Teachers as well as an Elementary Multifunction Agent – APT (An agent who will provide basic health services to the community).
It bears to mention that the Mangwana school will have an agricultural Curriculum to allow the students to acquire knowledge about how to deal with the land and agriculture, starting at a young age. In order to implement this project, an understanding memorandum was signed with the company CONSOL who collects PET bottles and organizes the supplies.
The infrastructure will be built based on PET bottles purchased at COMSOL – Maputo’s Cooperative for Environmental Solutions, as a way to reuse this material and contribute to generate income for the waste pickers of that Cooperative. It is, however, important to mention that the school can also be built with conventional materials and in any location in the country.
